Severine Catreux Ph.D.

Severine Catreux is a distinguished leader in the field of bioinformatics, currently serving as the Senior Director of Bioinformatics at Illumina. With over two decades of experience in signal processing and genomic data analysis, she has been instrumental in the development and optimization of high-performance secondary analysis pipelines, most notably the DRAGEN™ (Dynamic Read Analysis for GENomics) Bio-IT platform.
Before joining Illumina in 2018 via the acquisition of Edico Genome, Dr. Catreux served as the Director of Systems Architecture at Edico, where she played a key role in the architectural design of the DRAGEN processor.
Severine holds a PhD in Wireless Communications from the University of Victoria and an MS in Electrical Engineering from the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Rennes. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Genetics and Genomics from Stanford University.
Severine has a demonstrated history of working in the biotechnology industry in the areas of NGS secondary processing, Mapping/Alignment, Variant Calling, Cancer genomics, and precision medicine. She possesses a strong engineering background skilled in MIMO, Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA), Matlab, LTE, and Modems.
A frequent contributor to high-impact research, Dr. Catreux has co-authored numerous publications on somatic variant detection, pharmacogenomics, and the analytical validation of WGS in oncology, including the recent MEASURE-ATLAS study. Her work on DRAGEN has consistently secured top awards in global benchmarks, including the PrecisionFDA Truth Challenges.
